Cultural learning is one facet of education that has a main role in developing global citizenship and in the building of a culture of peace in the world. Through this, the individuals not only find their own identity, but also and in the same level of importance, they learn to value the differences and understand as very rich those distinct aspects that people from other culture reveal and add to humanity’s cultural heritage.
It is in this perspective that ECCOS School is establishing and developing partnerships with schools from different countries, providing our students opportunities to make a great and useful exchange of information and taking part in projects focused on Global Interest topics. One of the culminations of this process happens when the students can communicate with other countries interlocutors, making the learning of a second language really worth.
On August 16, we had one of these precious moments, getting students from Year 3 (morning and afternoon) involved in a talk to Miss Raihana Raque, principal of the Banshgari 1 Government Primary School, located in Dakha, Bangladesh. Our students, who have already been developing some shared activities with students from that school, had the opportunity to talk to Miss Raihana and show the questions they had prepared previously, approaching different aspects of school life in Bangladesh, such as: “In Bengali writing, do you write from right to left, or from left to right?”; “what sports do you practice there?”; “are the tests taken individually or in groups?”; “what languages do you learn at school?”; “how do the children have fun at school there?”; and many other questions about anything and everything that would sharpen their imagination and curiosity.
